Tazmin Mitha: The Fashion Designer Proving Challenges Are Stepping Stones.
Tazmin Mitha |
After failing to get a good job
with a good salary,Tazmin Mitha decided
to turn her passion and hobby into business; a step which has seen her become a
well known fashion designer in Malawi and even outside the country. Losing her parents at a young age, later
becoming a single mother and not going further with her education because of
the challenge to find school fees did not shade her vision of becoming a lady
on the go.
“Never give up! Challenges will always be
there”- Tazmin Mitha.
Ladies on the Go Malawi caught up
with Tazmin to share her story, mainly how she became a successful fashion
designer.
May
you tell us more about yourself?
Tazmin Mitha
is a simple and humble single mother of two boys. I lost my father at the age
of 7, and a few years later my mother died too. I am who I am today because I
was raised with the care and support from my father's side. I didn't go far with my education due to the
early death of my father which made school fees to become a big challenge. Currently,
I am a fashion designer, owner of Tazz Classic clothing line.

What made you become a
Fashion Designer?
Sewing
has been in the blood for decades from my father's side. My aunt from Sweden,
from England and also two aunts that are here within Malawi, including my
sisters and cousins all over Malawi are designers. I picked interest in sewing
at the age of 11. It became a hobby and later turned into a passion. After having my kids, and failure to get a
good job with a good salary, I then decided to turn my hobby and passion of
sewing into a business to support my family.

What kind of clothes do you
design?
I am
more focused on ladies wear. I am an expert in red carpet gowns, wedding
dresses, dinner dresses, bridesmaid’s dresses, flower girls, traditional
attires, causal and office wear, not forgetting maternity wear. I also do men's
shirts if need be.
How has your journey in business
been like?
Business
has been awesome by God’s grace. Independently, I started my own business in
2015 with the help of three loving ladies who encouraged and supported me. Christina
Fumulani, Chikondi Kaphyepye and Anitta Kamangira - you are my angles sent from
above. I am well known not only within Malawi, even outside Malawi. I also have
a facebook page that I showcase my work and amazingly I have a lot of
followers. It's Tazz Classic Clothing Line, so yes a huge progress indeed. I do
the designing, cutting and sewing myself. But I do plan to employ people soon, as
my business is growing and demands from my customers are getting even higher by
the day. I want to grow very big in future as my vision is for my brand to go
global.

What advice do you have for ladies
who are aspiring to follow your footsteps?
The most
important thing is to know yourself, understand and believe in your dreams. To
give one's self to research and plan what you are dreaming to venture into.
Never give up! Challenges will always be there. Failures make you unique, use
them and turn them into positives. Always remember, if the others can do it, so
can you.
