Chisomo Machelo |
The
story of Miss Blantyre 2015, Chisomo Machelo, began from the instant she
started working as a fashion model for her friend’s clothing line. Having
attended no modeling classes, the current model and accountant, found herself
in a Miss Blantyre crown before the year she extended a helping hand to
accelerate the business of her friend had elapsed.
“Modeling has helped me build my self esteem”- Chisomo Machelo
Ladies
on the Go Malawi caught up with Chisomo Machelo to share her modeling journey
and some of her significant accomplishments.
May
you tell us more about yourself Chisomo Machelo?
I am 23 years old. I was born in a family of four
and I happen to be the only girl. I did my primary education at Blantyre
Baptist Christian School; thereafter I went to Southend high school where I did
my form 1 up to 5 before going to Kamuzu Academy for my form 6. After
completing high school I wrote the University of Malawi (UNIMA) Entrance
Examination. I got selected to study Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting at the
Malawi Polytechnic in the year 2011. I graduated from UNIMA in February 2017
and currently I am working as auditor for one of the big four auditing firms in
the world.
How
did your modeling journey begin?
I haven’t been in modeling for long. I started in
2015 by helping out my friend Lauretta Mtike to advertise her clothing line
called Vivetta.
Despite
being a student the time you were crowned Miss Blantyre and currently an
Auditor, why still adhere to modeling?
According to me, modeling is a job that requires
less effort. I feel like it is one of the ways of expressing yourself and that
is why I love it. Moreover, modeling has helped me build my self- esteem.
What
exactly do you do as a model?
I have done a few runway gigs but I am more
interested in commercial modeling.
As
a model, what is your diet like?
There is no such thing as avoiding food when it
comes to me. I eat anything but am never idle. I like drinking a lot of water and
doing a few exercises for fitness.
What
has been your greatest achievement as a model?
I was crowned Miss Blantyre in 2015.
What
are your goals as a model?
I want to be more than just a model. My goal is to
be a role model to the youth of Malawi and God willing to the world at large.
What
advice can you give to someone who would like to become a model someday?
Be true to yourself. Obey God. Be confident and
always smile.
